THE SYMPOSIUM “THE CRISIS OF OUR ERA IS TERROR” WAS HELD WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF PROF DR MEHMET GÖRMEZ

Panel on “The Crisis of Our Era is Terror” organized by ASDER-supported Üsküdar University Postcolonial Studies Application and Research Center (PAMER), in which ASSAM participated in the preparatory work; It started with the opening speeches and presentations of the President of Religious Affairs Prof Dr Mehmet Görmez, the Founding Rector of Üsküdar University Prof Dr Nevzat Tarhan, the Mufti of Istanbul Prof Dr Rahmi Yaran and the Director of Üsküdar University Postcolonial Studies Application and Research Center (PAMER) Associate Professor Merve Kavakçı; and two sessions were held on March 23, 2016 at Üsküdar University Central Campus.

In the panel, “jihad”, masked terror and suicide bomber massacres, which have become a subject, were evaluated scientifically in the sociological database to the extent that time allows.

In the first session titled “Imperialism and Postcolonial Resistance in the 21st Century” led by Associate Professor Merve Kavakçı, Prof. Dr. Nazif Gürdoğan, Associate Dr. Niyazi Beki and Dr. Neslihan Çevik, Üsküdar University Political Science and International Relations Department Head Prof. Dr. Mithat Baydur, Retired judge Yusuf Çağlayan, journalist writer Nevzat Çiçek and research writer Mustafa Armağan presented their declarations as panelists in the second session titled “The Radicalization Process of Muslim Youth and Sociological War”.

Stating that the panel will reveal stimulating and inspiring ideas and information, especially in terms of the fight against terrorism, which threatens the world, Prof. Dr. Tarhan explained that they set out for three reasons while planning this panel. Tarhan,

THE WORLD IS GOING TO THE WORLD WAR III

“First, the world was going to the third world war, and its method was an asymmetrical war, and this war was planned as a war between civilizations. Although the methods, methodology and weapons of this war were different, their aims were the same.

Secondly, the source of this war was dark, obscure, ruthless and cruel, and its methods were very dirty.

Thirdly, Muslim societies were not the subject of this war, but were used as its object. We prepared for these reasons, we had to talk about social perceptions.

Because the basic element in psychological warfare is perception management. To the question of how a person decides, the science of psychology says, ‘People make decisions by rationalizing their prejudices and perceptions and then forming a belief in reality’. Recent scientific data show that the human brain is not an organ of reason, but an organ of belief. We are not what we think, but what we believe. In the asymmetrical war, our beliefs are interfered while our perceptions are being played with. We need to understand this and tell it to the world. For this, knowing what we want to be persuaded should be an important view.”

SUICIDE BOMBERS ARE CHOSEN FROM AMONG THOSE WHOSE “HONOR OR SANCTITY” HAS BEEN DAMAGED

Prof. Dr. Tarhan said that one of the concepts that feeds terrorism is the selection of terrorists from among the victims of terrorism. As Tarhan said:

“How can these people who are not mentally ill commit such brutal acts? When the facts are examined, if the ‘honor or sanctity’ that people see as the reason for life is damaged, they can kill their spouse, child and themselves without any hesitation. The same is true with a suicide bomber. If feelings of oppression and humiliation are mixed with feelings of hatred, enmity, the person enters autohypnosis and can kill both himself and the target group with an orgasmic feeling with any slight trigger. Because his honor and sanctity command this way. He thinks that it is more valuable for me to die as a hero than to live humiliated with these feelings.”

A CULTURE THAT APPROVES OF TERRORISM IS AN UNDEVELOPED CULTURE

Stating that the thing that feeds terrorism the most is its legitimacy in society, Prof. Dr. Tarhan reminded that when the tragedy of September 11, 2001 happened, there were cries of joy in some Middle Eastern countries, “This was neither Islamic, humane nor moral. The culture that endorses terrorism is an uncivilized culture and not celestial. Stating that today, unfortunately, the structures of thought that divide terrorism into useful and non-useful ones and provide opportunities to the terrorist who works for him, unfortunately, dominate the United Nations today, Tarhan said, “The UN President is doing the greatest evil to humanity by pacifying that office. There is a lack of sincerity in the fight against terrorism. This sin is belong to us. The UN should be reformed like the World Parliament and enact fair global laws.”

ISLAMIC COUNTRIES MILITARY COOPERATION IS AN ASSAM PROJECT

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan pointed out that the world should take measures together in the fight against terrorism that threatens Turkey and the world, and said that a special and well-intentioned UN-level security diplomacy should be developed by taking advantage of the communication age. Tarhan stated that Islamic countries' military cooperation against terrorism, which is also a project of ASSAM, is a historical step, and that it is an attempt that scares terror theorists the most.

DISCRIMINATION BETWEEN DEATHS IS INHUMANE

Head of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez said in his presentation:

The killing of an innocent person based on the principles of the Qur'an is equivalent to the destruction of all humanity. The death of one person is the death of all humanity. We are believers of such a holy book that clearly expresses this. Discrimination between deaths is inhumane. It is inhumane to discriminate between massacres. It is not right to discriminate between violence and terrorism based on secular foundations and the so-called religious foundations. There is no difference between terrorism being from person to person, from society to society, from the state to society.

WEAKENING THE CONCEPT OF JIHAD IS THE GREATEST UNJUSTICE TO ISLAM

He stated “Weakening the concept of jihad is one of the greatest injustices and mistakes that can be made against the Qur'an and Islam. Attempting to define jihad as a massacre, as a name for a war that does not recognize morality and law, is one of the greatest evils that can be done against Islam.

Calling the suicide attacks, which our religion personally prohibits, as istishhad, describing them as the desire to become a martyr, and attempting to seek support from the holy book and the hadiths of the Prophet for this is the greatest evil that can be done against Islamic civilization and the legacy of Islamic fiqh.”

MURDER NETWORKS UNDER THE COVER OF RELIGION

Noting that murder networks covered in the guise of religion are exploiting destroyed dreams, Görmez said, “We must also see that in the shadow of all these occupations, wounded consciousness has reduced religion to an ideology with a positivist and materialist method. On the one hand, we need to focus on the global causes that give rise to external terrorism and make an intense effort to remove the Islamic geography from being a conflict area of global powers.”

THOSE WHO CLAIM THEMSELVES AS MUSLIM SLAY THE NAME OF JIHAD

Mufti of Istanbul Prof. Dr. Rahmi Yaran in his speech titled “Jihad Practices in Islam”, he stated “Terror has no place in Islam. Innocent people killed in the name of jihad have no sin. Muslims work to eradicate evil and help to develop the world.” Indicating that the concept of jihad in Islam is “to strive for something”, Yaran said, “For the sake of jihad, a Muslim sacrifices his property and his life. For a war to be counted as jihad, Muslims must be prevented from practicing their religion, their lives, property and honor must be in danger. The most virtuous jihad is to bring justice in the face of oppressive authority. Those who claim themselves as Muslim slay the name of Jihad.”

WE MUST DISCOVER OUR DEMOCRATIC VALUES WITHIN ISLAM

Saying that our spherical Earth has become a flat-square, Maltepe University Dean of Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Ersin Nazif Gürdoğan said “Walls are collapsed. If the man has a hammer in his hand, he sees every problem as a nail. They cannot solve problems by using force. In the new world order, everyone is dependent to each other. New things have to be said and something new has to be done. A return to the Holy Qur’an and the basic sources of Islam is needed. Masnavi should be a source of inspiration for introverted, spiritual jihad, and Ibn Khaldun for extrovert jihad. It must be the sharing party. In order to prevent conflicts and terrorism, we must discover the democratic values in Islam.”

SOCIOLOGICAL WARFARE

While the nationalism formed by the process of the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648 integrated the fragmented structure with sub-national identities in European societies into a national identity such as French, German, etc., while transforming the solidarity of different religions and nations into ethnic identity-centered solidarities in the Ottoman Empire; Retired Military Judge Yusuf Çağlayan, who stated that the single-centered Ottoman solidarity was falling apart, provided information that could answer the question “Are we aware of the sociological war that transformed the Ottoman Empire into the Middle East yesterday, that targets the Turkish-Islamic World today, that destroyed Islamic solidarity yesterday, and that prevents Islamic solidarity today?” and stated that sociological warfare is a type of asymmetric warfare, that sociological security-based security reforms should be made and that defense and security systems should be restructured accordingly.

DAESH CANNOT REPRESENT ISLAM

It has been stated by the panelists that

Üsküdar University Islamic Philosophy Research Institute, Associate Professor Niyazi Beki, said that the verses of Jihad in the Qur'an point to spiritual jihad, which means recommending good and forbidding evil, that states can enforce orders and prohibitions by using force;

US Viriginia University Faculty Member Dr. Neslihan Çevik said that due to the sociology teaching in the secular education system and the researches carried out in this field, Muslims are shown as a sick mentality in the west, and that DAESH is likened to the terrorist Azariqa in the early periods of Islam;

Journalist and writer Nevzat Çiçek said that DAESH motivates its militants, especially those it uses as suicide bombers, by promising the paradise;

Researcher and Author Mustafa Armağan also states that the information we consider in our comments is of western and imperialist origin, and that it will not be possible to reach accurate results without reconstructing our Islamic science and resources with correct information;

ASSAM’S THOUGHT ON THE “THE CRISIS OF OUR ERA IS TERROR” SYMPOSIUM AND NEW SYMPOSIUMS

In this Symposium, the struggle of precolonialism, colonialism, postcolonialism, Islamophobia, jihad, Islamic terrorism, suicide bombing, sociological war practices and the practices of terrorism, civil war and asymmetric warfare that the world and especially the Islamic world are exposed to, with only the social forces of the national powers of the countries have been brought to attention.

In this state, it turned into an effort to prove that the terrorist incidents did not originate from the religion of Islam, and the defense reflex was revealed.

The struggle against economic and social forces between civilizations, cultures and tribes started with the history of humanity and still continues today.

If the conflicts between the states could not be resolved despite the use of economic and social forces, political power was used and if the planned targets could not be achieved, great wars were experienced by using military forces.

But in any case, military power was decisive. The states, which see themselves as militarily strong, have started a relentless struggle with their national power elements until they can impose their will on their opponents.

Unbalanced military forces have either provided dominance to the countries that have them in every period or have led to the beginning of great wars, up to the unlimited use of armed forces to establish their sovereignty.

Today, the USA and Russia, who have learned lessons from the invasions of Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, cannot afford to engage their regular military forces in the conflicted countries and regions to participate in ground wars. But they do not give up on their goals and their claims to sovereignty.

As the Islamic World and the countries that have suffered from terrorism, we should realize that in the world that has become unipolar since 1990, the USA is in the position of the “Imperialist Global Power”, the playmaker without an alternative. For this reason, the states of the world are governed by the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, and they cannot go beyond the will of the USA.

The Islamic World is at the Target of Global Imperialist Powers.

The Global Imperialist Powers are ruthlessly attacking oppressed nations with all their economic, social and political powers, under the umbrella of their military forces equipped with advanced technology defense systems.

Global Imperialist powers, with a different NEW, DIRTY AND VEILED, ASYMMETRIC WAR STRATEGY, in the Islamic Geography; By inciting the ethnic and sectarian differences of the legitimate states in every field and by supporting those who accept the service to their own interests, they cause the Muslim States to experience the “Asymmetric World War III” by clashing the Muslim Nations among themselves.

ASYMETRIC DEFENSE STRATEGIES MUST BE DEVELOPED AGAINST IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ASYMMETRIC WARFARE STRATEGY

To follow a policy of unity and solidarity in the national arena against inciting ethnic and sectarian differences;

To implement the operation to counter the internal and external centers of terrorism with specially trained special forces and asymmetric methods against the realization of terrorist attacks against the dominant authority by armed ethnic and sectarian groups;

To provide a fair solution against the civil war practices that started in Islamic Countries with “crisis resolution confederations” to be formed by Islamic Countries;

Against the practices of dividing and conflicting the Islamic Geography on the basis of sectarian differences, there is a necessity to realize the unification that will enable the Islamic Countries to gather under one will.

In order to defend against the “Asymmetric War Strategies” put into practice by the Imperialist Global Powers in the 21st Century's struggle for global domination; There is a need for a large number of scientific meetings on the methods of

  • force structure of global powers,
  • their deployments around the world,
  • technical and tactical capabilities,
  • structure, bases, supporters, practices and methods of struggle of international terrorist organizations.
