ASSAM Vice President of the Board of Directors, Strategy and Security Specialist, Retired Senior Colonel Ali Coşar, gave an interview to Akit Newspaper on October 16, 2019 regarding the embargo imposed on Turkey.

Criticizing the European countries that decided to impose an arms embargo on Turkey, ASSAM Strategy Specialist Retired Senior Colonel Ali Coşar said, “This embargo will not be very effective. It will not cause us much trouble.”

The Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and France announced that they decided to impose an arms embargo on Turkey, while they remained silent about the 30 thousand trucks of ammunition sent by the USA to the terrorist organization. Saying that the embargo will not affect Turkey, ASSAM Strategy Specialist, Retired Senior Colonel Ali Coşar, said, “The fact that Turkey has a say in the region and showing its power has caused them to be stunned.”

The EU is also torn apart in the embargo issue

Stating that the big countries of the EU could not make the decision they wanted from the meeting they held among themselves, Ali Coşar: "England has declared that it will not participate in the arms embargo. The EU could not unite on this issue. But it was released for each country to impose an embargo with their own decision. Turkey currently has a 70% indigenousness rate. Of course, we have certain shortcomings. Also, we can fix those shortcomings. These embargoes affect Turkey, albeit slightly, but have no effect on the operation. The last operation allowed us to see how the world thinks of us. The fact that Turkey has a say in the region and showing its power has caused them to be stunned. This embargo will not be very effective. It will not cause us much trouble.”

Turkey of 1974 no longer exists

“Due to the embargo imposed by many European countries, especially the USA and Germany, during the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, Turkey could not use the weapons and ammunition that it paid for and bought, and with the important steps it has taken in the defense industry in the last 15 years, it has succeeded in minimizing its dependence on foreign countries by increasing its indigenousness rate to 70%.”
