INTRODUCTION
In terms of India we need to remember that Muslims built India over 1000 years from Muhammad bin Qasim to the Mughals. This includes the establishment of Muslim rule via Turkish and Timurid leaders inclusive of Mahmud of Ghaznavi(Ghaznavids), Timur(Timurids) and Mughals. Thus there is permanent stake and claim on it’s future. Under Mughal rule it had circa 25% of global wealth in the 1700s and under the British Raj it fell to 2% in 1950. Currently it has come up to 10% in 2026.
FACTS
The Republic of India is principally known by two official short names: India and Bharat. An unofficial third name is Hindustan, which is widely used throughout North India. Although these names now refer to the modern country in most contexts, they historically denoted the broader Indian subcontinent.

To understand Muslims and the Indian Union we need to differentiate between Kashmir which is still the only Muslim majority state and Indian Muslims who live in the rest of the country as Indian citizens. According to the Indian Census figures see appendix Kashmir is the only Muslim dominated region of India but which Kashmiris view as occupied. Legally it is a “disputed” territory since the partition of British India in 1947. In 2019 Kashmir’s autonomous status was terminated by the revocation of Article 370 and 35A.
ARTICLE 370 and 35A
Articles 370 and 35 A of the Indian Constitution were revoked in 2019 by the Union Government. Article 370 had accorded special autonomous status to Jammu and Kashmir. And all the provisions of the Indian constitution which were applicable to the Indian states did not apply to the territory.
Article 35A of the Indian Constitution was an article that empowered the Jammu and Kashmir state’s legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state and provide special rights and privileges to them. It was added to the Constitution through a presidential order, ie The Constitution Order 1954 issued by the President of India under Article 370 . Under the state’s separate constitution, which is now defunct , permanent residents could purchase land and immovable property , vote and contest elections, seek government employment and avail themselves of other state benefits such as higher education and health care. Non permanent residents of the state, even if Indian citizens, were not entitled to these priviliges.
Pakistan’s claim to the entirety of Kashmir is based on 3 sources.
The first is the India Act 1947 in which accession of the Princely States to Pakistan or India would be based on geographical contiguity and demography.
Secondly implementing the UNSC decision on conducting a plebiscite
Thirdly based on the Kashmiri freedom struggle originating in the 1820s against Ranjit Singh and the Dogra dynasty.
Taking all this into consideration one can argue that India is not a democracy. It resorts to using military coercive force with up to 1 million Armed forces, Border security forces and the police to impose it’s will. There is no autonomy, no consent, with media and leadership silenced and dissent suppressed. (Dr.Mubeen Shah).
It is ruled directly by the Delhi government by a Lt.Governor and token Chief Minister and Assembly and brute military force spearheaded by 3 Amry Corps- 15 and 16 Corps in Srinagar and the 13th Corps in the Kashmir valley.

India is run by the BJP in reality is not a secular or democratic state. It is run by a Brahmanical elite presiding over a centralised state operating an apartheid system on religious minorities and Dalits. It is influenced by the Hindutva ideology which is seeking to establish the hegemony of Hindus and the Hindu way of life. There is an architecture of fascism entrenched since Modi(2014-2026) led by the BJP and the RSS which is modelled on the German Nazi Party and Italian Fascism of the 1930s.
On the otherhand Indian Muslims who remain in India made a political choice to stay in post Independent post Partition India. It is time to take the purdah off as there are 2 Indias.
The Pew Research Centre based on 2020 research gives the figure for Indian Muslims as 213 Million or 15.2% of the entire population of India. Although it is spread across India it is predominantly in Northern and Western Indian states.
There is no Muslim in the Indian National Government as the 800 members of Parliament elected on a BJP ticket in the last three general elections, not one is a Muslim. Under Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, the BJP has sought to create a Hindu vote bank, fighting and often winning elections on the basis of the support of Hindus alone. Once a Hindu-first politics propelled them to power, the sangh parivar has consolidated its dominance socially, through harassing and demonising Indian Muslims .
As for working-class Muslims, they are subject to discrimination in housing and employment, and to routinised taunting and humiliation through lynchings and house demolitions.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Act clearly discriminated against Muslims, and the abolition of Article 370 was not unrelated to the fact that Jammu and Kashmir was India’s only Muslim-majority state. Hindutva majoritarianism is promoted through the saffron robes of the chief minister of India’s most populous state and the prime minister presiding over the inauguration of the new Ram temple. They are behaving as if they were Hindus first and Indians only later. Bollywood is now increasingly prone to showcasing films that portray non-Hindus negatively.
All the evidence shows that Indian Muslims are being denied their rights systematically and are being treated as subjects not citizens under Hindutva overlords.
Pakistan although resisting a hegemonic India has been timid and reticent in highlighting the dangers of a belligerent Hindutva. There has been a failure to challenge effectively the negative narrative of the Modi government. There is a need to end sterile dialogue and expose the international real face of Hindutva India .
I want here to highlight that political exclusion and marginalisation of Indian Muslims is not restricted to the BJP but also under the Indian Congress party. According to Genocide Watch’s director Dr. Gregory Stanton genocide develops in 10 overlapping stages and processes simultaneously. They claim that India has reached stage 9. It does not mean it is inevitable but it needs urgent redress at all levels. Also this is not known fully at international level due to the modus operation of a triple censorship by the Indian and Western Zionist controlled media. But also a climate of fear and self censorship appears to exist among Indian Muslims.

- Indian and Kashmiri Muslims notwithstanding the lack of representation in the political and administration sectors need to devise, pursue innovative comprehensive socio academic strategies and empower themselves effectively with networks and alliances with other oppressed classes.
- Mass popular education and development of socio cultural tolerance for diversity to resist genocidal forces.
- Mass popular resistance to discrimination, dehumanisation, hate speech, formation of hate groups, political parties preaching racism and xenophobia and ruling elite advocating exclusionary ideologies and human right violations.
- Political courage to challenge discrimination, hatred and tyranny.
- Countering media narratives via international channels like TRT, Jazeera.
- Establishing new media channels to promote the Indian Muslim narrative
